Description
A warm and delicious apple dessert that combines the flavors of cinnamon and nutmeg with fresh apples.

- 3 ½ – 4 lb. apples
- 1 lemon (freshly squeezed juice)
- ½ cup light brown sugar
- 1 Tablespoon corn starch
- ¾ teaspoon cinnamon (or more to taste)
- ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¼ cup unsalted butter (cut into small cubes)
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¾ cup unsalted butter (cold and cut into cubes)
- ¾ cup whole milk
- 3 ½ Tablespoons cinnamon sugar (mixture of 1 ½ teaspoon cinnamon and 3 Tablespoons sugar)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350F. Grease a 9 x 13 inch baking dish with melted butter (or cooking spray), then set aside.
- Peel and core the apples, then cut into about 1/4 inch slices and transfer to a large bowl. Pour lemon juice over the apples and toss well.
- Add the mixture of cinnamon, nutmeg, brown sugar, vanilla extract, and corn starch to the apples, then stir until evenly coated, then set aside.
- Add the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar to a food processor and pulse just to combine.
- Next, add the cold cubed butter to the processor and pulse a few times until the butter is cut into really small pieces.
- While pulsing, add the milk. It won’t come together perfectly, but remove the blade from the processor and using a spatula mix it finally.
- Layer about half of the apples in the prepared baking dish, scatter ¼ cup of butter cut into small pieces and top with the remaining apples.
- Spread the topping over the apples. Sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar.
- Bake at 350F for about 50-60 minutes or until golden brown on top.
- Serve warm with ice cream and caramel sauce if desired.

- This dessert pairs perfectly with vanilla ice cream.
